Our Oil, Gas and Power team is Europe’s most active private equity investor and we are using our experience and network to develop our business globally.

We focus on supplying growth funding to expanding businesses and buying existing businesses with potential for value creation. On a selective basis, we also make early-stage venture investments in exciting technologies. Our Oil, Gas and Power team currently manages a €750m investment portfolio across three sub-sectors including:

Exploration and Production
3i has funded a number of international exploration and production companies such as Venture Production, Salamander Energy, CH4, Pearl and Noreco. We are
committed to building and creating value with leading companies in this sector.

Oil Services
We have established an unrivalled European investment track record helping
to build many successful companies including Wood Group, Petrofac and Vetco.
Our recent investment in Dockwise builds further on our achievement in this sector.

Gas and Power
We first began investing in gas and power companies in the mid 1990s and we are continuing to establish a strong portfolio track record with investments in Electrawinds, GES and Vijai Electrical. 

We have recently strengthened our commitment with the appointment of Ian Russell, former CEO of Scottish Power plc, as Industrialist-in-Residence.

We typically invest in the following situations:

• Growth Capital: €10m – €200m
• Buyouts: up to €1bn
• Venture Capital: €2m – €50m
