Imaginarium is a chain of toy shops specialised in creative and educative products. It was founded in 1992 by Felix Tena who had the idea of opening a toy shop with no violent products. The company had a national and international development plan whhich objective was to open around 300 shops in Spain, Europe and Latinamerica by 2005. 3i invested in the company because it was impressed by the manager/owner and by the ambitious project. 3i supported the development plan and by 2002 the company had 215 shops in 15 countries. In July 2002 LCapital, an investment fund created and managed by LVMH bought 40% of the company. With the operation Imaginarium increased its operative and expansion capacity.
