3i has had a local presence in Greater China since 2001, with offices in Beijing. As of 31 March 2008, over 40 businesses invested by 3i have operations in China and we manage an investment portfolio valued at cUS$350m. Since 2003, 3i has invested in the following sectors: Manufacturing, TMT, Technology, Food and Beverage, Consumer Goods, Retail and Real Estate.
We have completed four international IPOs: Focus Media (New York), GST, CSMC, Little Sheep (Hong Kong). Another of our early investments, Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), a leading Chinese battery maker, was acquired by TDK Corporation in 2003. 3i is also an investor in CDH II, the Beijing-based private equity fund.
