Private equity requires particular skills and experience. For Analyst and Associate positions, which are entry level roles, some backgrounds are more suitable than others. As a minimum, we expect an excellent first degree, supplemented by professional experience in the M&A, corporate finance, tax, audit or consultancy fields, preferably with an international dimension and language skills.

For Analysts, two years’ experience in a relevant field is sufficient. Analysts usually evaluate investment opportunities within the business line and interact with a range of contacts to develop the market. The role requires strong analytical skills, business acumen, team spirit and interpersonal skills. Analysts can expect to spend two years with us before moving on to broaden their experience or gain professional qualifications elsewhere.

Candidates for Associate positions should have between three and five years of consistent and robust experience in a blue-chip environment or equivalent and a very good postgraduate or MBA qualification. Investment banking and management consultancy are well-trodden paths, with sector knowledge an advantage. We are also interested in candidates with strong private equity industry experience.

Among other tasks, Associates lead key stages of deals, perform portfolio administration, build 3i’s profile in the market, hunt deal opportunities and contribute beyond their immediate team. Successful Associates tends to be high achievers with a strong track record of progression and learning. They are influential leaders who enjoy responsibility. They have the confidence and skills to offer ideas, summarise positions, agree tactics and see things through.
